Since Apple has come out with an operating system that essentially has a screen reader built in for no additional charge, would you consider buying a Mac? Yes, you will need to learn not only a whole new access program, since VoiceOver isn't really a screen reader in the traditional sense from what I've heard, but you will be using a computer and operating system that is something other than Windows. I'm personally excited about the thing and plan on getting a Mac in the near future, as in sometime next year perhaps. I figure for the things I do on the computer daily, the Mac will serve me just fine. I understand a lot of people are very skeptical about hte new system, and it has received a lot of bad press, but I still like hte idea that I can get a computer and it will be accessible pretty much out of the box and I won't have to spend another 900 bucks for a screen reader, after I may have spent 900 bucks approximately on a new computer system, or perhaps more.
If I had the money floating around, i'd buy one. I just don't have the cash. I really want to use a mac for at least some every day activities, and hopefully pro tools could come in handy for production and stuff one day.
I wouldn't ever by a mac coz of there price.
I would like to try one, but i've seen some guides to get it working on an x86, so i might try that.
BEN.
500 US dollars for a mac minni isn't bad
Wait until mac x86 start to come out, because before it's all said and done you will probably be able to duel boot windows and osx on it.
Well, I wouldn't buy one as it is now, because it is still limited compared to windows. I've never heard anyone on the chat sites I use to go on using a mac. Perhaps if I were just a beginner, didn't like chat or anything like that, maybe. But as it stands now, no. It doesn't work for things like ivocalize, or ventrilo, not that I can use ventrilo anymore anyway, but it would be too totally different, and what about msn messenger? Before I got my computer, I considered getting one, because it already had the synthesizer built in, but a friend told me not to do it, because she said it would be hard to find software for it. It just seems too limited for me still.
wonderwoman
Yep, I'm going for a Mini. I figure I'll save a hundred bucks a month for seven or eight months so I ahve enough to cover the machine and any accessories I need to buy and I'm good. I'm not sure what kind of chat things the Mac has on it, as I'm not into chats. Here are more things to consider. A Mac is not vulnerable to the viruses and spyware Windows users are vulnerable to, so I wouldn't want to run Windows on it even if it were capable of such.
